• Prevent out-of-scale development. The most consequential vote of the current 2022-2023 term will be on Village Center Zoning. A vote will occur by December 31, since VC Zoning is being used to satisfy the state's MBTA Communities directive for Newton to zone for by-right development of 8,330 units near transit. In the next term (2024-2025) the Planning Department and City Council are expected to resume consideration of new Residential District zoning, that was put on the back burner during the 2019 election period. I will only support zoning changes that discourage teardowns and displacement, and preserve green space and trees -- not zoning redesigned to benefit developers.
