"As a founder of the Newton Tree Conservancy, Julia has worked tirelessly as an environmental leader in Newton. She is also a proud preservationist, leading the historic landmarking status of the Davis Hotel and Robinson Block in West Newton Square. I am honored to be working with her on the City Council"
Tarik Lucas
Ward 2 Councilor at Large
"Julia is exactly what one hopes to have in a local representative.  She does her homework and helps to make sense out of all the city ordinances and policies, distilling it into something that is easier to understand, enabling us all to better engage.  Julia helps make me a better citizen."
Greer Swiston
Former Alderman at Large

“Julia is a proven activist for local issues. She does her homework, shows up at civic events and asks good questions. I think the City Council will benefit from her analytical mind and independent thinking. I think Ward 3 will benefit from her deep knowledge of Newton, and her commitment to the residents here.”
Barbara Brousal-Glaser
Former Ward 3 Ward Councilor
“I moved to Newton because I was looking for a community that cared about the wellbeing of their neighbors, the environment and everyone having an equal opportunity to achieve the American dream of owning a home.  Julia represents all of those things to me and I am happy to support her in her candidacy as City Councilor of Ward 3”
Renande Loayza
Ward 3 resident
“Julia is hard-working, detail-oriented, super smart and cares about the people of Ward 3. She grew up in Newton and appreciates our unique and special layout as a city of villages. Especially when West Newton is facing so much development pressure, Ward 3 needs a councilor who will look out for the public good rather than the profits of private developers. Julia Malakie would be that councilor and I strongly endorse her candidacy.”
Emily Norton
Ward 2 Councilor
“I am very impressed by Julia’s credentials both as an environmentalist and as an advocate for our community. Julia is a strong leader on numerous environmental causes such as maintaining our tree canopy, controlling invasive species, fixing gas leaks, advocating for open space, and minimizing her own carbon footprint.”
Brooks Mathewson
Ecologist/Educator/Photographer
"Councilor Malakie is a hard-working councilor who does her homework on city-wide issues before the Council, as well as looking after her ward. Her perspectives have been helpful, and I hope that she will be re-elected to continue her service next term."
Lisle Baker
Ward 7 Councilor
I've known Julia for many years, going back to working out agreements between residents and developers for projects in the West Newton and Auburndale neighborhoods.  She is tireless in addressing her constituents questions and concerns.   Julia has been heavily involved in supporting the restoration of our tree canopy, particularly on the City's North side where the canopy has deteriorated significantly over many decades.  You might even see her out planting trees something she does seasonally. A classic ward councilor who listens and acts.
Chris Markiewicz
Ward 4 Councilor
